Work permit checks
So these rumours about not being able to get a visa without a wp seem like they may be genuine but I also heard that they may check visa and work permit when flying back n country at the airport, this seems very unlikely to me but has anyone else heard anything?
Re: Work permit checks
There is one big logistical thing that makes this unlikely to ever happen: the processing time associated with the work permits.
Friends of mine have still not received theirs, which were submitted in February.
I think you can look forward to more Thai-type visa rules, and hopefully, criminal record checks to qualify for a work permit.
At some stage I foresee expat bar and restaurant owners facing problems, the potential for a cash cow is just too tempting. Time will tell.

Re: Work permit checks
I thought you had to have a Business Extension before you could get a WP.
AND you could not get a WP, the employer gets it for you, (unless self employed) So if you here long term and don't work then you ain't gonna get one even if you want one for some unknown reason.
So it doesn't make sense to do this! Not even in the KOW! They would loose more because folk couldn't actualy get a WP so wont be spending any more $$ on this. They will most likely start spending time and money elsewhere.

Re: Work permit checks
The other logical problem is that visas and work permits are administered by different departments.

Re: Work permit checks
And, . . . . visas can expire any month, but WPs are supposed to be done at year end.
My WP expires in December, but my visa is valid until next June. They should issue WPs year round, as required.

^I agree it would be easier to do together at the same time.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
