Not entirely correct, there is no hard and fast rule. It depends a lot on the kind of oil used, the food items fried, the temperatures, etc. As a matter of fact, if you look after the oil (strain and filter after use) it can be used many times. When the oil starts foaming or smelling odd, it is time to ditch it.
Sadly, many local businesses use it well past that.

I stopped eating deep fried street food after eating some chicken in pattaya. it took two days before I no longer had the oil on my hands and in my mouth. I hate to think what it was doing inside my body
