‘A Cambodian Spring’ - probably not coming to a cinema near you
Can't imagine this flick being screened locally.
HotDocs Awards Special Jury Prize to Chris Kelly’s ‘A Cambodian Spring’
The insightful documentary from Little Ease Films follows three activists over six years who are caught up in the rapidly changing modern-day Cambodia, following decades of civil war and violence.
HotDocs is one of the world's leading documentary film festivals and ran from April 27th-May 7th in Toronto, Canada.
‘A Cambodian Spring’ exposes the complexity, corruption and hypocrisy informing the current state of affairs in the country, where mothers Toul Srey Pov and Tep Vanny, and Buddhist monk Venerable Sovath attempt to defend themselves against the injustice of the times.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

I saw the trailer a few weeks ago. It looks completely partisan, and it is prematurely saying that the CNRP have actually brought in a revolution. Compare it with the naively optimistic "Damascus Spring".
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Another film to check out on the internet ?
‘A Cambodian Spring’ Wins at Brooklyn Film Fest
June 13, 2017
“A Cambodian Spring,” [which took Irish filmmaker Chris Kelly nine years to make], a documentary that chronicles the lives of three activists as they fight evictions and rights abuses in the run-up to the 2013 national election, was awarded Best Feature Documentary at the Brooklyn Film Festival on Sunday.
The documentary follows the lives of land activists Tep Vanny and Toul Srey Pov as they fight evictions in Phnom Penh’s Boeng Kak neighborhood, and Luon Sovath, an activist monk, as he supports farmers in Siem Reap province locked in a violent land dispute with authorities.
Last month, Mr. Kelly also picked up the Special Jury Prize at Hot Docs, an international documentary festival in Toronto.
Due to the sensitive nature of the film, there are yet to be any announcements of screenings in Cambodia.
