We overheard a group of Khmer workers being warned about these women this morning, so clearly they are non-discriminating pickpockets.Jaap N. wrote:A word of warning from CPN
'The crowd of the new opening has attracted pickpockets as well. My wife got her wallet stolen by 2 ladies in their 50s. She realised too late the reason of their staying close to her. It happened at the street entrance in the mayhem of cars, motorbikes, bystanders and tuk tuks waiting. It seems that quite few people lost their belongings there everyday since the opening. Just a word of warning.'

Re: AEON Mall Phnom Penh Opening 20 June
We went on the weekend.
It was ok. It looks like there is still a lot yet to open.
I was dreading the crowds but to be honest I did not find it bad at all.
Also I finally managed to find shoes in big sizes at the Clark's store. They said all shoes go are stocked up to a size 12. Not cheap but better than my old pair which we're falling apart.
The only real bad point for me was the parking building. They could do with some guards directing traffic or pointing you in the right direction of free spaces. You just seem to drive around until you find something.
Overall I was impressed.

To be honest we didn't head into the food court.
We did stop at a Japanese buffet (forgot the name) $8.80 for 80 mins all you can eat. That included soft drinks, tea, and beer.
Sushi was ok not the best but eatable. Sides were good.
I will look at the directory of stores tomorrow when I can get my laptop and say what the restaurant was, I will know the name when I see it. Starts with a K.

That's Kaihomaru, Kiwii.
Sushi are nothing to talk about indeed, but yeah the side dishes are pretty good. I especially like the deep fried, crispy mackerel pieces and the grilled tasty chicken. And 8.80 is the opening discount rate. It will then go to $12+ for lunch and $18+ for dinner, I think.
And it's $3 for kids. Oh and VAT is not included in the published price, so add 10% to the bill.
Soi Dog, the food court is divided into 2 parts: World Dining and Japan Dining.
At Japan dining, you'll find outlets like Yoshinoya, Gindaco, Copin, a curry rice outlet and Nicky Japan among several others.
At World dining, you'll get Cambodian noodles, Indian curry, and apparently Chinese, Italian, Vietnamese and Singaporean (but I can't confirm because I didn't have a look at their offerings).
The mall's food court is not to be confused with Aeon Department Store's food market (It has a name for it but I forgot it) where they have a whole lot of different types of food on offer (sushi, Cambodian noodles, pizza, sandwiches, fried rice, fried chicken, desserts, and much more) and also a whole lot more havoc. There is not enough seating space and the booths' staff are overwhelmed by the sheer number of customers. The floor also quickly gets dirty as people walk around, spill drinks or food and step on them.

On pickpockets. A biker type wallet w/chain seems to deter pickpockets, and for those it doesn't there are sharp pointy things to modify roaming hands.
