Queue jumper at Lucky on Sihanouk

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Queue jumper at Lucky on Sihanouk

Post by nightmare.believer »

A Khmer in front of me in line, a white woman in back, a 30 something little Khmer guy walks up to the front of the line and puts two things down. The cashier ignores him at first, then she looks at the line waiting. I slowly shake my head at her. She starts telling the Khmer guy that I don't want him to queue jump. So, he turns to me and starts asking for my permission, that he only has two things, please, etc. I don't look at him, pretending that he isn't talking to me. But he kept asking, 4 or 5 times, continuously. She rings him up and he leaves.

Why wouldn't you explain to the line jumper why his behavior is unacceptable?

On one of my first visits to my local store in Indonesia the shop keeper accepted a line jumper. I placed my items on the counter in front of him and walked out. It never happened again to me in that store.

Yeah I would have said something to him. To me, people that queue jump are bang out of line

How you haven't managed being robbed of your three dollars fifty, had your throat slit and thrown in a river before now is confusing.

He knows he's being a cunt; I wouldn't have been telling him anything he didn't already know.
And in your scenario, you made a connection with the shopkeeper that you wouldn't put up with that behavior. This wouldn't work in Lucky.

Ala Capt. Bizzzzohnnnnzzzzz

"dom rong chua!" (get in line)

He had a list of other Khmer retorts for line jumpers but I can't find them.

This is a non-issue if you're the one at the counter. I just shove their stuff to the side or literally put my shoulder in them to make them move aside while saying "kniom mao moun" or something like that. If it happens at a gas station I bark at them (have to be more vocal because I can't physically move back in front of them). If you're there you just need to show that it's unacceptable. No one EVER cuts in line in front of me. I don't allow it. Period.
