Cambodian Dancing
was talking about this in another topic but thought id start a new thread...
the most common is Rom Vong...
this is the dance where they dance in a circle doing the alternate movements with their hands (there are a number of different ways to dance this style depending on the music but we will keep it simple)
then there is Rom Kbach...
this is a dance very similar to Romvong, but the music is a lot slower, and a much bigger step is taken in between each phase
then theres Rom Chok Kom Pers...
this dance is done either side by side or facing your partner going in and out to each other whilst scooping your arms down round then up then giving them a little spin, the dance is called shoveling up the shrimp, its one of my favourites,
here they start off in a line, then go to facing each other around the 1m30 mark
then theres Rom Pisa Vong...
this dance is with a similar step to the Rom Vong and Saravan but the hands go from the sides then brought over to your front to cross your hands then back again...
theres also Rom Saravan...
its an older more traditional dance
theres the Robam Tep Apsara
traditional Apsara dance
also Robam Choun Por
another Apsara dance
and Robam Cham Pa Thoung
another Apsara dance (done by my favourite singer Sokun Kanha haha)
youve got the oldschool Rom Agogo/twist dancing
now one of my favourites.... Rom Madison!!
many different variants to this dance but all follow a standard linedance style routine
regards to the modern nightclub dancing,
thats called Rom Bek Sloy (crazy dancing) the style changes every year to what is the new "cool" way lol
these are all the ones i know of the top of my head, i think i covered pretty much all of them

Can't get the Saravan song out of my head at the moment. Asked Songsa to find it but she said there are heaps of Saravan songs. but the one I'm thinking of is new? I think. Do you know the title of the track?
Also she says that there are 5 types of dances in Cambodia.
1. Saravan - hands kept low
2. Some Khmer word I can't pronounce - hands halfway up the torso
3. Apsara
4. Modern nightclub dancing - another khmer word I can't pronounce
5. Madison - When she pronounced this it took me ages to understand what she was talking about. But... something like the nutbush dance but came out in the 50's.
Any chances of finding some clips with the different types of dancing?
