Re: Sniper Shatters World Record
I think what Lexus was saying was that it was from a high rise, and according to your calculations, it must have been 200 to 300 mtrs tall. Presumably with the targets located on low level. At least then he wouldn't have been aiming at the sun. I'm not knocking the snipers, even though what a horrible job, just the powers that be trying to make the most out of it for propaganda purposes. I'm sure it was nearly 100% luck. Instead of 100% skill. I wonder how the sniper feels about it all?lurcio wrote: ↑Sat Jun 24, 2017 9:53 pm Playing around with a Shooters Calc program and it came out that it would have to be about an 8.25 sec shot with the shot aimed at about 300m (a 10 degree elevation) over the targets head. http://www.shooterscalculator.com/balli ... t=647eb252
Not sure how the muzzle of the rifle doesn't block the scope view though???
(edit - should say 10 deg in the diagram - d'oh)
Incidently, how many buildings in Afghanistan are around 700 to a 1000 ft ?
The tallest building in Afghanistan is the Azizi Tower in Kabul. 135 m / 443 ft built n 2014.

Re: Sniper Shatters World Record
No, you're reading it wrong. The shot is the green line going from left to right and the shooting position is 90ft above the target.
I watched a YT video where they made a 4200yd shot. They eventually managed to hit a 3ft wide target although it needed 17 shots and a spotter down range to tell the shooter where the rounds were hitting. The rifle was fitted with an attachment to give the scope a greater offset and they were basically just sending down 'Hail Mary' shots. If you send down enough lead eventually you're going to hit a target.
So, the shot could have been made and when you are measuring your grouping in yards then it doesn't matter if your target is walking around either.

I was reading the green line as the shot, but didn't notice the firing position of 90ft.lurcio wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2017 10:38 am No, you're reading it wrong. The shot is the green line going from left to right and the shooting position is 90ft above the target.

I understand more now, and can see that with the electronics, site attachment and spotter, it could be acheived on an individual target. It's a bit like long distance bowling, or golf. Good kill, as they say.

According to the Canadian commander of the JTF, the shot was followed end to end by very fancy gear, with data and video shown to and confirmed by allies. Multiple mainstream media covered the story:

The shot may be possible, but you guys are all asking the wrong questions.
The relevant question is: how did he know it was an Isis Militant from 3km away?
Oh, lookee there, I can read his ID banner from 3km away...
Possibly some Sunday afternoon macho sport that had to be justified.

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.
