District police chiefs to be promoted, so they don't have to retire

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A very original idea. Instead of raising the retirement age of lieutenant colonel police chiefs (who must retire at 55), the authorities have decided to raise the rank of all district police chiefs, so most of them will be at least ranked colonel (retirement age 60). This is thinking outside the box.
- All district police chiefs are to be promoted to the next rank, according to a government official.
Lieutenant General Pen Vibol, director of the Interior Ministry’s personnel department, said the promotions will apply across all 203 districts in 25 provinces.

The majority of district police chiefs are currently serving as lieutenant colonels and will be promoted to colonel.

Lieutenant colonels are required to retire at age 55, while colonels can work until the age of 60.
Interior Minister Sar Kheng ordered the promotions to allow more senior officers to continue working past the age of 55. “This will allow them to work in their units for another five years.”
