Never understood the hatred for backpackers, tbh.
If we lump all members of a race or religion into one stereotype, it's negative. But this is not?

Yeah, but backpackers are neither a race or a religion. I hate the fuckers because they never seem to realize their backpacks 'stick out' and they keep turning around and smacking me with the damn things!
You could be next.

Haha, then I'm assuming you don't have much time for some local drivers...

I think you might not mind getting bumped by one of these...

hmm, not sure how I fit these tight definitions/judgements. Sleeping on the beach is the big sign you are one? wtf? I sleep at a 12 bed dorm at a hostel when I'm in Bkk. But then rooms are cheap in Cambodia so I get my own. I'm a late night person. As to pack/suitcase? I have a small rolling suitcase, sometimes a pack that converts to suitcase or shoulder carry, and always take along my Army duffle with backpack straps as the small suitcase and any small pack can both fit inside.
I sez BAH to these labels. Oh, I'm 62.

I'm fifty and other than the last 12 months I spend around 8 months a year traveling with a 26 ltr/7kg carry-on backpack. I've actually tried very hard to curb my wanderlust this last year with concerns about my financial future in old age and I've stayed put in Australia - my life has been complete and utter misery since, I just can't live how the rest of them do here. I now understand there are some things I won't have in this life, and I'm OK with that - I like the backpacking life.

You can blame backpack MAKERS for that as they almost all seem to make a one size fits all/for all use design. Small, rides behind your shoulderblades and sticks OUT a mile. Good for kids. I had to look a LONG time to find one that is 22" long, nearly down to my belt and only about 9' thick, does NOT stick out. Actualy only found a couple like this in many many hours/days of searching. Beyond belief. Most bags stick out more than their width or even height. Really stupid.Cruisemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2017 6:00 am Yeah, but backpackers are neither a race or a religion. I love this but for one thing, look at the bottom photo. I guarantee that stuff won't be anywhere NEAR where you put it after you carry it. Heavy stuff sinks to the bottom, but wait, I'm gonna do suitcase carry, then maybe backpack carry. Yer stuff will end up looking like clothes in a front loading washer. Otherwise very nice.

i haven't used a backpack in ages, now carry a 3660 cu.in ( 24" x 12.5" x 11") dufflebag with 3 outsdie pockets that I can carry by handles or on my shoulder with the adjustable strap
Plenty enough space for a weekend or month long trips
most people that carry backpacks ( seems Australian women love those huge things with their shoes and such hanging off them ) nowadays dont ever truly need them or have ever done multi day hikes for which backpacks were made

No, they realise it, and they're secretly really enjoying being aholes. That's why if I see a backpack swinging into me I immediately push it back in the other direction and calmly say "no." I've never, ever had one of them pretend they didn't know, or arc up about it. Same for the aholes that thump every aisle passenger on a plane with their carry-on case/bag - they know what they're doing.Cruisemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2017 6:00 am Yeah, but backpackers are neither a race or a religion.
