Health Insurance

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Health Insurance

Post by Ronny »

Ok, I've heard several of you guys emphasize the importance of having healthcare coverage while living in Cambodia. So my questions are simple. When you get there, where do you go to find health coverage? Where are the best places? And also, what is the general price for a general 1-year healthcare plan over there?

I don't have any, but this just popped up on another site

I know nothing about them, but you might like to look into it.

I too have never had insurance cover. But residing here, I have been wondering if I should.

It depends on your age, lifestyle and luck. I've lived here for 25+ years without it, but I am old and have prepared an exit plan so as not to let amateurish hospitals feed off my bank account or be a burden to my family.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

With you saying exit plan! Is this hopefully to fly to a western country? If so it would depend on the nature of the illness.

I have World Nomads for about AUD700/year, but I understand they don't insure "travellers" for more than two years, so I will try another (1cover maybe) when this one expires next year.

I did enquire about expat insurance and was quoted USD1500/year which is roughly three times the price of World Nomads.

Taabarang, you said you have an exit plan? Good G*d I hope you don't mean you're going to off yourself! You've got my interest now so please tell me what your exit plan is.

What I'm worried about is getting in a traffic accident and getting seriously injured and having to pay a huge amount of $$$ that I might not have. Don't any of you guys worry about something like that happening? I'm 49 years old and relatively healthy as far as I know, lol.

Thanks, Timmy. Yeah, that AUD figure sounds reasonable. I think I'll check it out.
