Can anyone sum up the differences in a few sentences if you use Linux?

The main reason to use linux is the GPL, the General Public License. Gnu/linux is a political project aimed at preventing corporations and/or governments from gaining control over technology. In order to achieve this goal, the linux community produces software. Nowadays, our flagship distribution is probably android (on the phone). The use of Windows, in any capacity, is rejected by the linux community because it would give control to Microsoft over essential technologies.

I always thought Linux would look something like DOS or one of those screens from the matrix.

Can anyone sum up the differences in a few sentences if you use Linux?
oh there's plenty - architecturally, in design principles, manners of tackling certain problems....
in linux you can always look under the lid and see what's going on, while at the same time graphical interface distributions like ubuntu are user-oriented in such a way as for your grandma to be able to install and use it.
i mean - unless you really need adobe photoshop or some such specialized software that has no better open source alternative, i see no reason to use windows and not linux. windows treats its users like retards, and uses the retardation it has cultivated...
