Work in Siem Reap
Work in Siem Reap
Hi everyone
I'm new to this forum but was wondering if anyone could advise as I am planning on moving to Siem Reap in Oct 2017 and obviously I have a couple of work related questions. I'm a mental health social worker and been in this field of work for approximately 8years. Does anyone know of any organisation's that I could contact? As a back up plan I was thinking about teaching English, is it worth doing a TEFL or is a degree qualification enough? If anyone has any other suggestions, I would mostly appreciate. Thanks

The Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Cambodia is Cambodia’s leading NGO in the field of mental health care and psychosocial support. http://tpocambodia.org/ I don't think they recruit expats but its a start.Emmymac wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 5:10 am Hi everyone

Whitetrashcomplex. Why don't you shut the hell up BKKtrapper?
You are just some drunken idiot tourist who knows absolutely nothing about working in Cambodia.
As for the OP, there is a huge need for workers in your field, whether there are many openings I don't know but good luck.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Thanks for the replies except the obviously rude one which I just found a bit odd. Anyway I expect I'll be asking more xxx

Do they treat foreigners and do they have a group rate? If so maybe CEO could find a new place for get togethers.

No they don't actually. Their mission statement is: ‘to improve the well-being of Cambodian people with psychosocial and mental health problems, thereby increasing their ability to function effectively within their work, family and communities’ underpins everything we do."
TPO has more than 50 staff members – all experienced mental health professionals as well as some management and support staff. All staff are Cambodian. We have offices in Phnom Penh (HQ, Treatment Center and Training Center), Battambang, Siem Reap, Chi Kraeng, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham and Tboung Khmum.http://tpocambodia.org/tpo-about/

to help recover from the bends of deep diving into the group psyche.

Re: Work in Siem Reap
Excuse the troll. He is our forum example of foreigner mental health issues.
Assuming you don't speak Khmer and that you don't have specialist knowledge in the Khmer mindset, you will probably not be immediately able to assist with local mental health work. No offense meant. However, there are many english-speaking expats in Cambodia who need help with substance abuse, alcoholism and various mental problems that arise from being far from their support networks.
As others have said, there is a huge need for more mental health workers in Cambodia, but the problem is that since it is not a priority, there is little funding, therefore not many decent paying jobs.
Don't suppose this helps you much, but do a search on mental health on the forums here and you might at least find more information on Cambodian mental health, the specific issues, and (possibly) connections to associations working in mental health like the one in the post above.
Some random threads on mental health here. There are more if you search.
