Finnish Backpacker/Expat Hannah Sirkiä Arrested AGAIN in Cambodia! This Time in Kampot For Property Damage

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Irony Award of the day goes to fellow expat Jessie Jimes on the Kampot Noticeboard:

They complain that a link to CEO was shared on the Kampot Noticeboard because we are such assholes, BUT his comment is sandwiched between 2 members over there calling her a twat and saying she's so ugly that Cambodia shouldn't even give her a visa!

Jessie Jimes needs to rethink their stance.

To be fair, the drunk guy that punched out his guest house was also a smooth-looking ad for Kampot people at play.
Did he even get a mention on their page ?

Foreigners on damage charges
Kampot Provincial Court yesterday charged two tourists, one Finnish and one British, for damaging property on Friday night.
The pair were charged with causing intentional damage and are liable to between six months and two years imprisonment, as well as a fine of up to four million riel (about $1,000) if found guilty.
The suspects were identified as 29-year-old tattoo artist Hannah Elisa Sirkia from Finland and 32-year-old Benjamin James Moore from England – both of whom lived in Kampot city.

Ms Sirkia became enraged and began throwing rocks at an ABA Bank ATM after she was unable to withdraw money from it.
“She got angry at the ATM for not dispensing money. She then took stones and began throwing it at the machine, seriously damaging it,” provincial immigration police officer Seng Kosal said.
“She was later arrested by local police who were on duty nearby.”

Police said that Mr Moore, in a drunken rage, destroyed a restaurant in Kampot City’s Sangkat Kampong Kandal by breaking glasses, a mirror and tables, among other items.
The investigating judge has since sent both suspects to pre-trial detention.
