This guide is worth a read even if you are not planning on going to Vietnam and you have never ridden a motorbike. Great photos too.

The Ho Chi Minh Road is fast becoming famous as one of the most scenic routes for a motorbike road trip in Asia. Although it will eventually stretch from the southern-most tip of the country to its northern border with China, to date (2016) the Ho Chi Minh Road has been fully paved from Saigon in the south to Hanoi in the north: nearly 2,000km of unbroken road, cutting through some of the most spectacular landscape in Vietnam. The best scenery can be found along the central section, where a landscape of endless limestone mountains, covered in a thick fleece of tropical rainforest and dissected by clear blue rivers, stretches to the horizon: if you only ride one part of the Ho Chi Minh Road, make sure it’s this one. Below is my full guide to the Ho Chi Minh Road, including route information, places to stay and eat, and things to see and do along the way.

My family owns a cafe restaurant on that road, and it's been completely screwed over and has since gone out of business since the began tearing up that road.dirtymacca wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2017 1:56 pm The road into PP is a real mess... Someone is making some good money out of not completing it in a hurry... Have to feel sorry for the folks trying to make a living along that stretch.
Most of my family that lives out that way now has moved into the city because driving would take 2 or 3 hours a day.

Re: The best thing in Vietnam !!!
I had the bright idea once of going from Snooky to HCMC.....it doesn't look far on the map, well ,it looks nearer than going SHV-PP-HCMC ,which is the route most touted by the bus companies in Snooky....big mistake....5 changes of buses interminable delays stuck in god knows where....a ferry crossing over the mekong delta,3 hours on a mini bus with a belligerent old yank who insulted the rest of the passengers,ie
some old Vietnamese women who he deemed were talking too much........a journey I'll never forget....over 12 hours ,leaving Snooky 8am ,arriving HCMC approaching 9pm....
saying that,I love Vietnam, but I much prefer Hanoi to HCMC .....tho' I found the food much better in HCMC.
