Armed robbers gun down chief monk, Kratie.
Chief monk killed, robbed
10 April 2017
The chief monk of a pagoda in Kratie province’s Chhlong district was gunned down on Saturday night by a group of five armed robbers.
Deputy penal police unit chief Seng Sareoun said the abbot was sitting in his room at the Roleak Kandorl pagoda in Damrey Phong commune’s Lok village when the robbers, armed with AK-47 rifles, shot him in the chest. “After entering the victim’s room, they fired six bullets into him causing him to die immediately,” Mr. Sareoun said.
“After killing him, they collected the victim’s money and other valuables in the room before fleeing,” he added.
District police chief Chhong Sarann said the suspects were a group of experienced armed robbers, but added that police had yet to identify or locate them.

Sounds strange, are chief monks normally quite well off & heavily armed/protected, to be worth robbing by 5 men with AK47's ?

I don't know if there is or isn't. It just seems to me "the great Buddha in the Sky" is out of luck in a country where money is more highly worshipped.

Quite irrelevant to me. This is where I live and is the country or what will be left of it that my kids will inherit. My personal problem is the blatant discrepancy between what is and what is professed.

Abbots can be "comfortable" enough, but I can't remember the last time one was caught with a gun. I would imagine they rely on laymen for security. Strange story, as above there is some information missing.jaynewcastle wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 2:29 am Sounds strange, are chief monks normally quite well off & heavily armed/protected, to be worth robbing by 5 men with AK47's ?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

And there is your backstory as predicted.
I am NOT a sorcerer or have no knowledge of sorcery. Don't kill me!
