Cambodia will play Jordan in Amman this Tuesday for their first qualification group match. Go the Angkor Warriors !

- The Cambodian national football team traveled to Jordan yesterday morning for next weeks’ AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 qualifier, reeling from a 3-2 friendly international defeat on Wednesday evening against the visiting Indian national side.

Cambodia will be up against it in their qualification group opener when they meet Jordan at Amman International Stadium on Tuesday. They will play five further games before qualification concludes on March 28, 2018.

The draw for the qualifiers took place in January and placed Cambodia in Group C alongside Vietnam, Afghanistan and group favorites Jordan.

Jordan is the strongest team in Cambodia’s qualification group with a FIFA ranking of 107. Vietnam meanwhile, occupies 136th position in the official FIFA rankings, with Afghanistan third strongest at 151. Cambodia, who defeated Chinese Taipei/Taiwan in the second round, is among the lowest-ranked nations to have made it to the third round and is currently ranked at 173.

The Angkor Warriors opening home game will be in June, when they will play host to Afghanistan. They will welcome Vietnam in September for their third group game. Both Afghanistan and Vietnam have handed Cambodia defeats in recent competitive regional matches.

Malaysia, North Korea qualifier to go ahead in Pyongyang
10 May 2017
HONG KONG (Reuters) –Malaysia’s postponed Asian Cup qualifying match against North Korea will take place in Pyongyang on June 8 after the Asian Football Confederation confirmed travel restrictions previously in force had been lifted.
Diplomatic relations between the countries had been strained following the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, the estranged elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in February.

“Following confirmation from the Football Association of Malaysia that no Government travel restrictions are in place, the Asian Football Confederation has agreed that the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Final Qualifying Round Group B match will now take place in Pyongyang, DPR Korea on June 8, 2017,” the regional body said.

13 June 2017 PHNOM PENH
Cambodia 1 Afghanistan 0

- After three straight losses for coach Vitorino, Cambodia took advantage of a shocking blunder from the opposing goalkeeper to beat Afghanistan 1-0 at Phnom Penh’s Olympic Stadium.

The win, Vitorino’s first in charge of the national team, pushed Cambodia up to second in group C behind Jordan who were held to a goalless draw by third-placed Vietnam. The Kouprey’s third AFC Asian Cup group c game will be an intriguing home tie against Asean rivals Vietnam on September 5.

Vietnam hammer Cambodia 5-0 in Hanoi
12 October 2017
- Vietnam took a big step towards qualification for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup after trouncing a visiting Cambodia 5-0 in a Group C clash at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on Tuesday night, as Jordan were held to a 3-3 draw by Afghanistan in the neutral venue of Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Vietnam joined Jordan at the top of the group with eight points each, and a win against Afghanistan at home next month will seal qualification for the Golden Star, who hosted the Cup in 2007.

The beleaguered Cambodian side, now a distant third, await Jordan in their next fixture at the Olympic Stadium on November 14, trying to erase bitter memories of a 7-0 first-leg away battering at the start of the third-round qualifiers...

Jordan vs Cambodia 1-0

15 November 2017
One of Cambodia’s smallest crowds for a competitive match in recent years turned out at the 50,000-seat Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh yesterday evening to see visiting Jordan deliver a 1-0 defeat to the Angkor Warriors.

In front of little more than 13,000 supporters, Jordan started their penultimate 2019 AFC Asian Cup group C qualifying match the brightest, with the ball spending plenty of time inside the Cambodian half and at the feet of visiting attackers...
