Danish Man Convicted of Prostitution Freed on Royal Pardon

March 3, 2017

A Danish guesthouse owner imprisoned in 2010 for forcing his male staff members to have sex with customers has been freed by a royal pardon after serving six years of an eight-year sentence, according to the anti-pedophile group that conducted the initial investigation into the case.

Svend Erick Jonasson, who ran the Seven In Guest House in Siem Reap City, received the pardon in a royal decree issued on January 3. It did not reveal why he had been granted clemency. The pardon was included in the government’s latest Royal Gazette...

The backstory:
Danish hostelier gets 8 years in prison
8 June 2011

Siem Reap provincial court yesterday sentenced 65-year-old Danish national Svend Erick Jonasson to eight years in prison after he was found guilty of one count of procuring prostitution during his tenure running the Seven Inn guesthouse between 2008 to 2010.

Jonasson was sentenced alongside his former partner, Phon Thea, an employee at Seven Inn, who was convicted on a lesser charge of conspiring to procure prostitution and faces five years behind bars.

During the verdict, Judge Ly Sokleng referenced testimony from three of Jonasson’s former male employees who alleged he coerced them into performing sex acts on customers during their time at the guesthouse.
n addition to the jail sentence, Jonasson and Phnon were fined a total of 16 million riel (around US$4,000), with around one third going to each of the victims.

“He started to teach and guide me in how to perform oral sex on other guys,” said one male victim during earlier testimony.

Jonasson was arrested in Siem Reap in August 2010 by the Anti Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Police who suspected he was about to flee to Thailand. Prior to his arrest Jonasson had operated the Seven Inn guesthouse since moving to Siem Reap in 2008.

The thing is the anti-pedophile group was conducting the investigation, not that it was pedophile. Just charged with procuring prostitution. Doesn't mention the employees age. So I assume they were over 18 or what ever the age of consent it here.

From the CD article linked above:
Mr. Jonasson admitted to having sex with the three male staff members aged 15, 18 and 21, but denied he made them have sex with guests on numerous occasions from 2009 to his arrest, said Oum Amara, a deputy provincial police chief, after the arrest.

“[The victims] had sex with Mr. Jonasson’s customers, each time charging $15 to $20, but the suspect took $5 of that fee,” Mr. Amara said at the time.

The Danish national, who was aged 64 at the time of his arrest, was convicted by the Siem Reap Provincial Court in June 2011 of procuring prostitution involving children and sent to the provincial prison for eight years.

Lol teachs me I should read the article first. You'd think he'd get harsher sentence then just procuring prostitution. Perhaps KoW says 15 is ok, dunno or that's to come.

He claims that he was set up...
After being accused of forcing minor male staff member at his guesthouse in Siem Reap to have sex with costumers, Danish Sven Erik Jonasson was imprisoned in 2010. After serving 6 years in prison he has now been freed by a Royal pardon.

Jonasson, 70, has said himself that he was not guilty and that he was a victim of a conspiracy, claiming that his staff had worked with a policeman to come up with the accusations in order to receive a compensation of 30 000 Danish Kroner.

On 3 January 2017 Jonasson received the Royal pardon in a decree, however missing a reason for the pardon.

Child protection NGO, Action Pour Les Enfants, expressed disappointment upon the court’s decision to reduce Jonasson’s sentence. The NGO had spend more than a year since 2008 to investigate Jonasson’s activities following tips from several costumers who had stayed at his guesthouse.
