Ha, not just here. It got rampant back in Oz too. Thieves were stripping the copper water pipes at construction sites at night time just hours after they were installed.

yeah, same in the US. a lot of our old historic buildings had copper rain gutters on them... "had"...

Scrap metal can be pretty lucrative, I'm talking honest stuff.

I lived in a really remote part of Central Oz for a few years and started to collect scrap on the weekends. When I had a trailer load and a long weekend I would do the 1000km round trip to Alice Springs and sell it. Mostly stuff from burnt out discarded cars on bush roads, copper radiators, electrical wiring, alloy rims and catalytic converters, but it was well worth the effort. Got $1800 for one load once.

In Thailand they were stealing manhole covers from the middle of the streets and guard rails from along the highways.

I hope if copper is going up that silver is going up in value also. I bought a bunch last year and it's been a dog of an investment so far.

Silver has had 4 consecutive weeks up now and has pushed through its long down trend.

It needs to form a support base now and things could be good.

Excuse my trading ignorance, but if I had money, I'd buy precious minerals. Only so much around, always in demand, and demand has to increase. Kind of no-brainer. Buy. Sit. Cash in.

commodity chartists call it "doctor copper" due to it's apparent long term mediating behaviour.
of course, it is not really influencing the other metals- it is just not as volatile, and is cheap to recycle back into manufacturing.
