64 illegal pharmacies closed down last year.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

- More than 60 illegal pharmacies were closed down across the country last year and more than 130 cases were sent to court, the Interior Ministry says.
The action by the ministry’s committee to fight against counterfeit drugs and the Health Ministry was set out in the Interior Ministry 2016 annual working result and direction for 2017 report on Wednesday. In 2016, the ministry closed 64 pharmacies and sent 135 cases to court.

San Chey, the executive director of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability-Cambodia, said the crackdown on illegal pharmacies and others in the health sector seemed slow.
The Health Ministry was still weak in the management and control of the work, he said. This slowness in enforcement between the ministries meant that illegal pharmacies were still operating.

“We would like to ask whether those illegal pharmacies sell counterfeit drugs. Sometimes they sell expired medicine that makes it hard to check for ordinary citizens,” Mr. Chey said.
Pharmacies and health service premises should also display their license to give confidence to the public.
