Tip Box in a shop? WTF?

First there's a TIP BOX on the counter of the German butcher's shop in SR, then another at the checkout in Monument Books.

Is this effing outrageous or what?

I have one on my desk at work. If anyone wants me to stop surfing FB or YT just to do something, they have to put a tip in the box.

Works great! No one asks me to do anything anymore.

unsure if related or even makes sense.. .one time i was getting a sandwhich at a deli..and they had a tip jar.. i put a dollar in but maybe kept hand in the tip box too long -- i wanted the guy to see i was tipping him ..so when i pulled my hand out the whole top of the tip jar went with my hand... was looking at me like i was crazy... kinda like now...
was like a Seinfeld episode
