If all cambodia expats were choosing thailand over cambodia as you do Richard, I wonder which other other country expat forum you would ask asylum to?phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:17 pm personally i would choose Chaing Rai over PP any day and night,
everything (except drinking/cigs ) is cheaper and its beautiful in northern Thailand (excpet for 6 weeks or so when they burn) than u head to the beach
PLUS great health care

I think your spreadsheet formula might have put too much emphasis on the price of alcohol, cigarettes and the and too little on odds of dying, on proper healthcare. Do you have full health insurance? I hope it all works out but I would never choose to live in Cambodia if I was moving here for the first time in my 60s (as much as I love the place).KHurr wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 4:56 pmNope. Getting a one way ticket and selling the car before I leave. I created a spreadsheet and ranked between 20 to 30 countries based on various criteria that is important to me. Cambodia came out on top and the spreadsheet don't lie SR may be the better city for me, but I will need to ground proof it first. If Cambodia doesn't work out, then it is on to either Vietnam, Chiang Rai, or Prague. I really want to visit Prague when it is warm. The cold winters bumped the Czeck Republic out of the top position.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 4:23 pm so ur in ur 60's,and u have decided to move to PP?I have never been to SEA,
this will be interesting..... Better make sure u have at least $5,000 and a return trip ticket home an dont burn all ur bridges.

Does Myanmar have an expat forum. PR loves Burma!Barang_doa_slae wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:43 pmIf all cambodia expats were choosing thailand over cambodia as you do Richard, I wonder which other other country expat forum you would ask asylum to?phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:17 pm personally i would choose Chaing Rai over PP any day and night,

Regarding expats in Myanmar, this little scary news item appeared two days ago.

The draft Law Concerning Foreigners and the Foreign Workers Law, which have been submitted to parliament for discussion, contain a number of provisions that have alarmed business groups and prompted anger and disbelief among foreigners living in Myanmar.

Absolutely ridiculous law if passed. Seems like the West's darling, Aung San Suu Kyi, is trying to outdo the Generals.ExPenhMan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 6:58 pm Regarding expats in Myanmar, this little scary news item appeared two days ago.

Re: Getting about in PP
Well after much careful thought and based on many of the recent news events, I have canceled my plans to visit/retire in Cambodia. Safety concerns, health concerns, corruption and now military crackdowns for possessing some of the scroungiest looking bud on the planet with outrageous penalties have pretty much outweighed any benefits for my visiting there. Amazing that Cambodia decides to do a crackdown when Thailand is actually considering decriminalization. Can these countries get on the same page and enter the 21st century together? Probably not. Cambodia had edged out Thailand due to the ease of acquiring a business visa, more relaxed pot laws and having a few billiard tables. It was never about cheap beer . I was never able to confirm if Thailand has any billiard tables, although it appears they take better care of the pool tables and balls in the pool rooms of Thailand I have seen. I would still like to visit Chiang mai for the golf someday.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 5:17 pm personally i would choose Chaing Rai over PP any day and night,

So for now, it's on to Prague (billiard heaven for me). If it gets too cold, then there is always Barcelona and Algarve for the winter. Peace

I'm not sure how worried they are here about weed. A few times I've even smelled the locals smoking it in my laneway here in PP.

Re: Getting about in PP
i like chiang rai too. not so good to find casual girlfriends but a nice and inexpensive place to live.
as to transport in PP, tuktuks are expensive and riding a moto scares the shit out of me as i constantly see accidents 2 or more times a week.
in my opinion thailand is cheaper except for alcohol and tobacco. the quality of accommodation is far superior for the money, and the food is both cheaper and safer.
however, i prefer to live in cambodia - there are more people who speak english, and the khmers have not yet been so corrupted by tourism as have the thais.
