Expat meetup in Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Expat meetup in Phnom Penh

Post by movetocambodia »

My friends down at Lazy Gecko are hosting an expat meetup this Sunday at 1 p.m. I won't be in town, but I would strongly encourage you to go, Barb's one of the most interesting chicks in town.

Here's the announcement:

Are you new to Phnom Penh? Want to meet other newbies and longer term expats? If you have questions and would like to talk to real life people instead of trolling forums and trip adviser for answers, come down to Lazy Gecko Cafe on Sunday afternoon at 1pm. This informal session will be hosted by Barb Eason, an Australian expat with 9 years behind her in the capital. A local business owner, NGO co-founder, a survivor of eviction, dengue fever and dysentery. Married and given birth in country, her local knowledge is pretty broad and random, she knows more Khmer swears than your average bear. Session is free, simply buy some food and or drinks and mingle. Longer term expats : maybe you're looking for a new housemate, sports team member or drinking buddy? Come along and share your experiences of PP. You just might meet someone ace. Copies of Lina Goldberg's Move to Cambodia will be available for sale as well. See you then!

OK, that is a blatant advertisement for a private sector even and the response by our admin is 'I am lucking forward to it ' ..... I give up ! What on earth is happening and why the fu** has it not always happened on forums?

Well done Lazy Gecko and especially well done admin team (Gen M and THE Dragon) for looking long term and not focusing on the short term.

If someone will pay my travel, I am there :beer3:

Just to clarify, I totally applaud business enterprise and both our admin/owners for welcoming and supporting it, in a genuine way.

However, a taxi from Wigan might be a little expensive, so thank you for the offer (PM) but I will wait and see you all in December, as planned

Yeah, meet-ups are always a good thing! I've made very many good friends from random meet-ups here in Cambodia, so they will always have my full support.
