Re: RE: Re: Regional Cambodian Dialect/Accent
This we call ពាក្យគន្លាស់. We can change consonant of the first word with the third word. Normally we do with words which have three syllables or two or four syllables.Jamie_Lambo wrote:for the Sok Sabbay play on words...
សុខសប្បាយ - Sok Sabbai
សាយសប្បុខ - Sai Sabbok
i cant really see what it could be as the "Sabbok" doesnt come up with anything even after playing around with the consonants
Sai means basically to scatter/disperse
It is formal and there is a book written about it. I have read it at HE library at Royal University of Phnom Penh.
វត្តលោកតា( wat louk ta)=> វ៉ាលោកទាត់( wa louk tiot )= វត្តវ៉ា( wat wa)
សម្បត្តិខ្លួនឯង( sambat kloun eng) =>សម្បែងខ្លួនអាត់ ( sambeng kloun at') =សម្បត្តិសម្បែង ( sambat sambeng).
Informal use:
if we use four syllables, we change consonant of the first word with the fourth word.and the second and third word we keep its sound. For example: គ្រូប្រពន្ធល្អ (Kru bro pun la or), ក្រប្រពន្ធរអ៊ូ (kra pro pun roo ou).
But there are many ways to use it but informal.
Some people use it to make fun with naughty words.
ស៊ុបកន្ត្រើយ ,សើយកន្រ្តុប.....
ក្តាមរត់ត...
កណ្ដោររត់មួយ...
កុំស្លាប់ដូចពស់ កុំរស់ដូចកង្កែប

Re: Regional Cambodian Dialect/Accent
Sorry, but I find that the majority of clever learned Cambodian word play is incredibly childishly boring.

Re: Regional Cambodian Dialect/Accent
to me, i sometimes get an headache. maybe i'm not the type of person who likes to play on words much.
i find the lyric kind of boring, to be honest. the only words i find interesting is the naughty words, naturally.
ស៊ុបកន្ត្រើយ = ស្រើយ ក៊ុន
សើយកន្រ្តុប = ស្រុប កន្តើយ
ក្តាមរត់ត = ក្ដ រត់ ដាម kador ruat daam
កណ្ដោររត់មួយ = កណ្តួយ រត់ ម៉ោ kanduay ruat mao
yeah, i copied them from the sheet because i thought it's hard for you to read as the fonts are too ..unreadable and messy.jamie_lambo wrote: did you just copy them from the sheet?

Re: Regional Cambodian Dialect/Accent
being english we love using wordplay its a very big part of our language, a lot originating from cockney rhyming slang
Give us a Butchers = give me a look (Butchers hook = look)
Taking the mick = Taking the piss (Mickey Bliss = Piss) (as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taking_the_piss)
im off for a gypsys = im off for a piss (Gypsies Kiss = piss)
im stood here on my jack = stood here on my own (jack jones = alone)
theres hundreds

Fine Jamie, Cockney English is endowed with a history of imaginative humor, some wordplay less than others but overall quite good. If the best Cambodia can offer is saisbok it's time to pick up the cards and go home.
