A truly stellar employment offer

This is our job board for expats. Until ZipRecruiter and Indeed make their way to the Kingdom of Wonder, this is the best place to look for employment in Cambodia, whether you're looking to teach English, manage a 5-star hotel, volunteer, or even work for some of the big NGOs. Even digital nomads who move to Cambodia sometimes need a side gig as a TEFL instructor from time to time. Most professional expatriate jobs are in Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap and Kampot are emerging as attractive alternatives. If you're an employer or hiring manager, you're also welcome to post your job listing here for free.

A truly stellar employment offer

Post by boozyoldman »

BACKSTORY: X had been looking for work in a certain provincial city. He had e-mailed, rung and sent SMS missives to
hot leads, lukewarm leads and frigid leads. (X is now adequately fixed up.)

This morning, this fluttered in, like Noah's dove returning to the Ark:

Dear X,

Could you help us teaching English at 2.00 PM to 7.00PM? The starting salary is 150 USD.
It'll be increased after we see your performance in one month.

We need you to start soon this month. Please kindly let us know.

X replied in a civil and decent manner.

NO - no names and no pack drill - X is FAIRLY sure they have never employed, or considered employing, a
NES before. X brought himself to the attention of this seat of learning.

They have always been extremely courteous and deserve anonymity.

Whatever. Their wages certainly reflect neither courtesy nor respect.

I don't really know what a reasonable wage for a qualified English teacher would be since I left the profession and ACE over 14 years ago. But when I left my hourly wage was $15-17/per hour depending on the course. The salary being discussed here indicates they intend to hire a warm-bodied paid twerp.
