Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn is to be confirmed as the new king of Thailand on 1 December, a senior source has told the BBC.
Once confirmed, he is expected to endorse a new, military-drafted constitution and to start appointing his own team of senior royal officials.
http://www.irrawaddy.com/news/asia/thai ... cript.htmlBANGKOK, Thailand — News that Thailand is making preparations for the crown prince to ascend to the throne on Dec. 1 is likely to allay worries that the kingdom was headed for a period of instability following the death of beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Fresh questions about the succession arose when Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn left for Germany at the weekend. He had already prompted some concern when he did not immediately become king following the death of his father on Oct. 13.
But two senior military sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Monday that the government is making preparations for a Dec. 1 succession.

This seems like a sensible move. Once he is actually king that will stop speculation about any possible alternatives. The king-makers will then make "business as usual" noises. Carry on, nothing to see.
Much better idea than leaving a vacuum where rumours and speculation would flourish.
That's the plan in theory I guess, and then we will see what reality brings. Stay tuned.

Much like Cambodia where everyone kept their pictures of the old king and just added the new one ?Fourkinnel wrote:So what do you think will change in LOS? Will every house have his picture on the wall?

Can is be called "self-censorship" when there is obviously an external force influencing your decision?I will self censor and not make any comment
Those of us who choose not to live there are not subject to its laws. Everyone who''s interested already knows that which is forbidden to be spoken there, so there's no need for a big discussion.and ask all of you to watch what you say

Re: Prince becomes king Dec 1st
one year I arrived to red shirts and guys in black lobbing grenades on BTS roofs, various small bombings and Central World burning, another I arrived to major flooding in the country and in the city. Then there was the clashes at Preah Villar (sp), and the yellow shirts trying to shut down the city center with tents everywhere and blocks of fun shopping
it's always something. Arrive Dec 1 for a week, then head to Issan. Luckily all this never impedes my ability to find good pad kapow and some Oishi.

If the Thai military government has said they will seek extradition of persons who are alleged to have committed a lese majeste crime in Thailand, first there would need to be a criminal conviction of the relevant person in Thailand, second an extradition treaty between Thailand and the relevant country, and third for the lese majeste crime either to be specifically listed in the treaty (there seems to be no instance of this) or for lese majeste to be a crime in the other country. Even if all of these conditions were satisfied, extradition would not necessarily occur. The only states other than Thailand that have a clear lese majeste law are Spain, Norway, Jordan, Holland and Morocco. None of these countries has an extradition treaty with Thailand.
