Re: Christopher Adams (New Zealand Herald Journalist) Dies From Apparent Drug Overdose in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
This is the first main news outlet that I've seen report Christopher Adams' death as a drug overdose.
In the New Zealand Business Review:
"Award-winning NZME business reporter Christopher Adams has died in Cambodia while on holiday.
Cambodian news outlets have reported that he died of an apparent drug overdose at the Angkor International hotel in Phnom Penh."

And this article:
"New Zealand journalist died of meth-induced heart attack in Cambodia - police
Cambodian authorities determined that a New Zealand journalist who died in Cambodia on Monday suffered a heart attack due to drug use.
Christopher James Adams, 34, a business journalist for the New Zealand Herald, died while on holiday in Phnom Penh in Cambodia on October 24."

Re: Christopher Adams (New Zealand Herald Journalist) Dies From Apparent Drug Overdose in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Uh huh:
If confirmed, this will likely be a shock to family and friends. But taking drugs is a weakness, not a sin. RIP and condolences.A urine test found both morphine and methamphetamine were present in his system.
Police said Adams died of a heart attack as a result of an overdose.
His body was being held at the Soviet Hospital in Phnom Penh.
So, of course sorry for the family, but from the Cambodian expat point of view, "if this is confirmed" as an OD (which seems likely), that makes two foreigners overdosing near riverside, Phnom Penh, in two days. And if I'm not mistaken, they had both just arrived in town so probably sourced from someone on the street that they didn't know.
Please be careful, newbies to Cambodia. No lectures on drugs, but two ODs in one week is definitely a worry. Take care.

This story is on VICE now, and I even took time out of my busy schedule today to do a quick interview with them:
Award-Winning New Zealand Journalist ODs in Cambodia
He had two kids, a wife and a career to envy. This week he was found dead in a Cambodian hotel room, lying in his own vomit with visible injection marks on his body.
Christopher Adams was an award-winning journalist with the New Zealand Herald. His colleagues and the business community he reported on are shocked at the sudden death, not to mention its nature..."

Well, he certainly didn't pull any punches... or hold back the gory details out of respect for the family and friends (like we do, most of the time anyway.)General Mackevili wrote:This story is on VICE now, and I even took time out of my busy schedule today to do a quick interview with them:

The link goes to 440, and Playboy's comment they took was about a club that existed there about 15 years ago.One Koon Khmer commenter describes the old hotel bar as a 24 hour-a-day establishment with "a plentiful selection of ladies with negotiable morals" and a signature cocktail containing "vodka, Red Bull and liquid Viagra".
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Haha, I talked to the writer a bit ago and pointed out they need to give Khmer440 credit for that instead of Koon Khmer and need change the name of that link appropriately, as right now it says "Koon Khmer" instead of "Khmer440" when you click on it.John Bingham wrote:The link goes to 440, and Playboy's comment they took was about a club that existed there about 15 years ago.One Koon Khmer commenter describes the old hotel bar as a 24 hour-a-day establishment with "a plentiful selection of ladies with negotiable morals" and a signature cocktail containing "vodka, Red Bull and liquid Viagra".
Just a typo, clearly.
