Charges Against Chinese Evaporate
Four Chinese nationals who were arrested by anti-drug police last Wednesday for carrying a liquid substance into Stung Treng province from Laos were released on Saturday after police discovered the liquid was not a type of drug.

Major Seng Sopheap, a provincial police officer in Stung Treng, said Vang Chin, 34, Chang Han Jing, 23, Yoeung Kok Yuen, 50, and Huy Yaing Tuy, 27, were Chinese businessmen traveling to the province from the Lao border.

“They were arrested after police seized about five kilograms of a suspected liquid substance from them. We suspected the goods and confiscated them for being substances used to produce drugs,” Maj. Sopheap said.

“But after taking the confiscated liquid to a Ministry of Interior laboratory, we realized there was no drug substance.”

The four men were then released by the provincial court prosecutor.
