Chinese president Xi Jinping will visit Cambodia this month.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

One thing that is nice about these visits... you can walk on the pavement on Norodom boulevard. No SUV's parked on the pavement. We should invite him more often.

China’s President Xi Arrives Bearing Gifts

Chinese President Xi Jinping is not one to arrive without a gift.

On his first visit to Cambodia as head of state on Thursday, he pledged some $237 million in aid, erased almost $90 million in state debt, offered nearly $15 million in military support and signed a bevy of new agreements.

I chuckled at this, in the first shot where the guard are all fidgeting, scratching their arses and peering over at their mates I thought they were crying out for an RSM to be beating them with his switch whilst swearing spit into their faces. Sihamoni needs a man coach, yes he's a figurehead but he could take a step back on the obeisance, maybe wait at the dais, kings trump presidents and all, yeah you want their money, but have an awning or something, a fancy one, to lead him in and then he's taller than you by a foot, anyhow, so there's the win from him. I think they could have shoe-horned some Apsara dancers in there, missed a trick. We have dudes in funny hats riding on fancy horses when foreign gentlemen come to visit.
