Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Car bomb fears prompt heightened security

Security is being tightened in Bangkok and nearby provinces following a tip-off about possible car bomb attacks later this month, a senior police officer says.

Deputy national police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul confirmed Monday police had received intelligence on possible attacks in three locations during Oct 25-30 in the capital and nearby provinces.

Pol Gen Srivara said authorities are on alert and have been told to step up both surveillance as well as intelligence operations.

He said while there are no specific targets, there will be extra-tight security in tourist spots, embassies and symbolic locations.

The deputy national police chief was speaking after chairing a two-hour security meeting with representatives from various police units including the Special Branch Police and the Immigration Bureau and state agencies.

Security authorities were reportedly told during the meeting to survey vulnerable locations and draw up action plans to counter attacks.

PM pleads with media to report bomb plot in capital with caution
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Tuesday pleaded with the media to exercise caution in their reporting of an intelligence report about a plot by alleged southern militants to carry out bomb attacks in Bangkok and peripherals during October 25-30 in order not to cause public panic.

He suggested the media to report just enough for the public to acknowledge about the security threat and not to sensationalize the report which, he said, may cause extensive negative consequences...
