Police release Chinese scammers because they were "only just planning it..."
Another great OIC story. Police arrest 83 Chinese nationals who were apparently setting up an online scam scheme. But since they had not yet begun operations they were all released; the price of the release has not been disclosed.

Police Mistakenly Arrest 83 Chinese
Police detained, and later released, 83 Chinese nationals, including nine women, after they had mistakenly believed the group to have been running a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) scam out of a hotel in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet.
Major General Seang San, chief of the internal security police department at the Ministry of Interior, said yesterday it was a case of mistaken identity.
“At first we suspected them to be a group of Chinese mafia who had been threatening and extorting people from China and Taiwan via VoIPs, calling them from Cambodia. So after the raid, our police arrested 83 Chinese nationals from the hotel,” he said.
“After questioning, however, they did not seem to be involved in monetary extortion or any other crimes. They were involved in operating online games, but they were only just planning it, they had not yet begun operations.”...

Ridiculous. I can't imagine anyone in Poipet being involved in illegal activities like that. And, there was only 83 of them anyway.
