About time someone was injured or endangered?
Or about time there was an incident to make people get smart and take steps about safety?
Years ago, BOM and children - then in their middle-teens - shot along the Mekong in Laos in a very very fast boat
with no helmets or life-jackets and the howling of the engine prevented the steersman hearing a similar
boat howling along the other way and coming round a curve.
The two oncoming boats missed one another by maybe 15 feet / 5 meters.
The Spirits were watching over us - but other travellers have been killed and injured.

Tour Boats Collide in Kampot
The chief of the Kampot provincial tourism department yesterday denied there were any injuries after two boats loaded with more than 100 tourists collided in the river bisecting Kampot town on Sunday night.
The two boats were carrying tourists at a very slow speed for the purpose of relaxing and collided with one another, leaving no injuries or damage, tourism department director Soy Sinol said yesterday.
Local media reported that the tour boats collided head-on with more than 100 people aboard in the river running through Kampot town. It was not yet known if anyone was injured and how much property was damaged.
Mr. Sinol claimed the report was exaggerated and said it should not have received media coverage at all.
“Actually, it was nothing serious at all. Some people didn’t even know the boats crashed into each other and the boats didn’t sustain even small damage. It is not newsworthy as it will damage the credibility of the tourism sector,” he said...
