Quite an "about-face" over Iraq
Re: Quite an "about-face" over Iraq
America sucks at war? Canada doesn't even have much of a military thanks to America being its big brother and footing the bill. If it wasn't for America, England and Canada may have German as the national language.
As to the Arabs, let them kill each other, its all tribal anyway. America (north slope of Alaska ) has more oil than all of the middle east, but the bought off us politicians won't let the oil companies take it out of the ground. In America its all about power and control for the attorneys and their bar associations that run the country. Yes, power and control, money is just a bunch of paper that they can print as fast as the press's will go.

Re: Quite an "about-face" over Iraq
I beg to differ. It was radicalized under the ayatollah. partially thanks to Carter who is the worst president in the past 40 years...next to Obama.
Yes the war in Iraq was based off false pretenses(kinda) but Bush's idea was a good one but the implementation of it was really shitty. Should have kept the Republican guard in power. Actually his father had the best move....weaken the Republican guard but keep it strong enough to hold off the sloppy Caliphate. But Cheney and Co say...fuck it go for the throat and open a mcdonalds.
No Mcdonalds....No oil...just a waste and now look. Thanks Obama for causing a power vacuum.

In 2013 we imported 3,574,781,000 barrels of oil.vladimir wrote:You see, you have fallen for the brainwashing yourself.OrangeDragon wrote:Do you really think that the middle eastern countries would just "play nice" if we leave them alone?
The reason they will never play nice now is that you never left them alone in the first place.
The only reason the US even cares about the middle east is money, mostly oil. No philanthropy/lifting the semites out of poverty involved. At all. Nada.
The irony is that they created their own dependence on the Arabs.
Only 732,972,000 (20%) of those were from the Persian Gulf.
Of those, only 124,403,000 (3% of the total) were from Iraq.
The reason we care about the middle east is also because we have allies there, and because there are countries there with nuclear capability.
As for never leaving them alone... go back in their history to ANY time there was peace there. As has been said, it's constant tribal conflict... but now with modern weaponry.

Take that 'only' 23% away, and you're screwed.OrangeDragon wrote:In 2013 we imported 3,574,781,000 barrels of oil.

This paints a slightly different picture:

I really don't understand the logic in 'they've always been fighting'. We're not discussing them fighting each other, we were talking about why they dislike the US, and the reasons for that are fairly clear, meddling and stealing (in their view) oil/supporting dictators.

Not defending Carter or Obama, but your failure/unwillingness to mention Bush...or perhaps you were only including literate, non-drug using presidents? Seriously, what a fucking moronic arsehole, one would have to be totally blinded by party allegiance to...oh, wait...The Add Jay wrote:I beg to differ. Edited in the interests of being polite.

The invasion of Iraq showed Arabs that their dictators were fallible. The Arab Spring would never have happened if it weren't for the invasion of Iraq.

Re: Quite an "about-face" over Iraq
Actually, other than being piss poor at war planning (which honestly is the job of his generals, not him... he's just supposed to be a pretty face on it), Bush didn't do THAT bad as president. Keep in mind a ton of shit from the previous administrations screwups gets laid at his feet (and to some degree rightfully because he failed to see them as potential problems and fix them before they became present problems) but given the cards he was dealt he didn't do THAT bad.
The whole "moron" game was a public appearance thing... he's not as dumb as he gets credit for. Watch his behind the scenes stuff from the campaign trail and that becomes clear. The "dumbing" probably actually won him a lot of votes without the voters realizing it... a lot of people subconsciously resent those who they see as smarter than them, so appearing otherwise can give you a slight upper hand.

The whole "Bush is retarded" thing is quite funny. Even an Obama fanboy friend of mine once said, "Bush-haters often switch between Bush being a raging idiot and a calculating criminal mastermind intent on destroying the lower class. I mean, which one is it?"

I have heard that from Bush supporters...."he only acts dumb". If that's the case, he deserves a fucking Academy Award.OrangeDragon wrote: The whole "moron" game was a public appearance thing... he's not as dumb as he gets credit for.
