Cambodia’s Chariots
The tuk-tuk – named after its Bangkok-born cousin for the sound of its idling engine, has become as uniquely Cambodian as prahok (fermented fish).
The tuk-tuks of today first became popular in Siem Reap, originally appearing in the late ’90s to early 2000s. And this is where 37-year-old Lim Chanrasmey had his start. Training as a workshop apprentice, the self-made businessman set out to learn as much as he could about building tuk-tuks in as little time as possible.
