Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Another confused story about a drunk man with axe , land conflict, and the police.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

“The people reported that it was a conflict in which the man used an axe in an attempt to hack others and the situation became chaotic, so a group of people apprehended him.”

Mr. Khny said, however, that Mr. Mith was drunk and had come to claim land he had already sold, apparently trying to pull a fast one on authorities.

“The land he claimed had already been sold and when the provincial authority came to measure the land, he came to claim it in case he got some of the land back. He was drunk and argued with other land owners, so the crowd tied him up and called the police,” he added.

“When I went there at around 5pm, he was tied up. I brought him to the commune police station at 8pm and he said his head and his left rib hurt. So I did not question him, but sent him to the district police station to receive treatment.

“His injuries were minor and he walked away normally in the morning.”

Chhouk district judicial police chief Oul Sivutha said Mr. Mith was the victim in this case as he had been illegally detained and beaten, making no mention of his alleged axe wielding tendencies.

“He is actually the victim and we questioned him and then let him go. We don’t know who tied him up because there were a lot of people there. When we asked him, he said he was the victim and not the owner of the land. We are calling others in for questioning.”
