Woman Stabbed To Death by Ex-Boyfriend

BY PHAN SOUMY | AUGUST 29, 2016

A woman was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend while she was working in Kompong Speu province’s Odong Market on Sunday, according Odong district police chief Khim Samon, who said the suspect was angry because the victim refused to marry him.

Sim Touch, 32, repeatedly stabbed Nem Chantou, 24, in the back, neck and stomach at about 8:50 a.m. at the dressmaking stall she owned, Mr. Samon said.

He then turned the knife on himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt, stabbing himself in the ribs twice and stomach once, he said.

The victim later died from her wounds at the district referral hospital, while the suspect is under police guard at Phnom Penh’s Calmette Hospital, he added.

“The girl refused to marry him because the man has a wife,” Mr. Samon said. “That’s why he got mad—he wanted to kill both himself and the victim.”

The police chief said he was astonished that nobody intervened.

A rejected suitor tried to kill himself after murdering his love interest at a public market in Kampong Speu province yesterday.

According to Khem Samun, Odong district police chief, suspect Sem Poch, 32, allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Nerm Chanthou to death at her tailor shop in the Odong market because she did not return his affections.

Poch was sent to Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh after stabbing himself repeatedly in the stomach until he fell unconscious.

“The suspect did not die. My forces sent him to Calmette Hospital and they are guarding him now,” Samun said. “The victim’s family told me that the suspect was angry with the victim, who did not love him.”

Samun said that authorities arrived at the site and examined the victim, who had been stabbed seven times.

Net Chheom Norn, the victim’s father, yesterday confirmed Samun’s account that Sem killed his daughter because of unrequited love. Norn said he heard the suspect already had a wife and two children, but still tried to persuade his daughter to be with him...
