What's with the foreigners in the KOW 2016 ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I am pretty sure that most of the 4.5 Million visitors do indeed just visit the sights.

No, most (when I arrived anyway) came here to work, often in the area of government support or in the NGO sector. Of course now there seems to be a fair amount teaching English and running small businesses. Most interaction was at work, meetings or organised social gatherings. I came because I was asked to provide support to the Ministry of Health in rolling out their first health coverage plan, and many of people in my social network were similarly involved.

Granted Cambodia has its share of sex tourists and bottom feeders but one rarely comes in contact with these and awareness of them is generally in the news or internet. Similarly such tourists would be generally unaware of the expats here holding down good jobs as unlike the sex tourist demographic they generally keep a low profile and have their own social networks.

Many heart attacks and strokes could be avoided!
When I went back home last year, found my blood pressure and Cholesterol levels very high. ( was, still am getting migraines) High enough to need prescription drugs. Finding a clinic to give accurate readings from blood checks could be a problem in KOW but should give you some idea.
I find discussing this subject to friends, some overweight or big drinkers just results in '' I'm fine mate, nothing wrong with me''
For regular drinkers and little exercise type members here, when was the last time you had a blood test or pressure check? If not for years you might be surprised, as was I.

unless cambo can control its drugs availability to forriners & improve safety for all tourists then this social issue of deaths & "destitute & bottom feeder"english teachers as GM refers to them will continue to increase.
shld just stop "advertising" KOW as cheap place for living with drugs, damn hippies and their social media
