Another young tourist, 23yo Frenchwoman, drowns off Phuket.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

A 23-year-old French tourist became the latest Phuket drowning victim after she was washed out to sea in rough waters on Saturday afternoon.

Anne-Sophie Torrijos-Faisant, from Nanterre, France had only arrived on Phuket from Chiang Mai earlier in the day but found herself in difficulty after going swimming with friends despite red flags out warning of the dangers.

Rescue volunteers who arrived at Nai Thon beach on the west cost of the island found Miss Anne-Sophie laid unconscious on the sand.

In similar circumstances to that of the English teenager Bryony Freestone who drowned last week, despite the best efforts of medics they were unable to revive the young woman and she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Thalang Hospital...

RIP. It's been a bad week for drowning accidents.

when i was young, my grandma used to tell me not to go swimming during the ghost's month (which is now), she said the ghost will be dragging people down to drown in the water so that the ghosts can find replacements be next in line for reincarnation, maybe now there is some truth in this myths as during this period there are strong currents.

red flags are there for a reason, had lunch the other day on Patong beach, there are designated areas for swimming, if someone wandered over to a red flag area the life guards went down and whistled them over, ( not all beaches at alltimes have life guards) if u ignore their advice or the flags... well its ur life.
The currents and rip tides are very strong in certain areas ( Nai Harn, Surin, Nai Thon) being the worst
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
