I'm midway between there and BKK market, but it's a bit too bland and residential for me. Still haven't decided exactly where I want to be either. I don't want to be in the middle of St 172 or anything, but it'd be nice to have local stores and daytime culture rather than a street of high fences and gates topped with razor wire.

If you're a Thong Lor guy, then BKK1, between Monivong and Norodom, is the (partial) answer. As far as I know, there's nothing like Prom Phong, Ekamai or Thong Lor in PP -- not even close.

Chbar Ampov looks like a nice area, and even looks relatively clean on the Google Streetview tour I just did. Just have to cross over the bridge to Superduper on 488 or TTP, or whatever.

Chbar Ampouv clean...you've obviously never been over there. Closest 'Western' style supermarkets and bars are, as you said, across the bridge and down in TTP.

Yeah that street doesn't sound like what I'm going for. I understand there isn't going to be Thai-level infrastructure. I'm just looking for the best area with coffee shops, grocery stores, gym, massages, and hopefully a book store. I don't really hate riverside, just wondering what the other popular areas are.

I see a lot of property ads for the Russian Market area.

deffo need to have a explore of some surrounding neighborhoods when i get back, im hoping not to get stuck in stuckville again

SHV seems like more of a place to vacation/retire/quietly run some organized crime. The Penh is a urban hellhole, but it's consistently weird and entertaining, if not always pleasant.

Unfortunately there is nowhere really desirable, its all pretty shit really. Jamie should really live in Daun Penh where the action is, for me I would probably go for there as well being young at heart. I lived for years in BKK1 but that was before the building boom.

i dont mind daun penh because ive spent a lot of time in that neighborhood and im familiar with it and its surroundings ive got my favourite noodle joints etc etc, i prefer not being too close to temptation though if i get my own place
