Man Killed over Cigarettes
Police in Prey Veng province arrested four Vietnamese nationals on Sunday after a drunken argument over cigarettes led to the death of a local man, police said yesterday.

The four suspects, identified on the National Police website as Nguyen Yangtev, 50, Nguen Yangnoeun, 27, Nguyen Yangkorng, 30, and Lam Yangsaeng, 22, had been drinking at a store in Peamro district before the incident, explained a district police officer, who asked to remain anonymous.

“The incident happened when two men went to buy cigarettes at the store where the four Vietnamese were drinking,” he said. “The Vietnamese men asked the Cambodians for some cigarettes, but they did not give them any.”

He said that when the victim, 33-year-old Seng Rathy, and his companion, 28-year-old Vireak Den, said they did not want to share their cigarettes, they were set upon by the four men and viciously beaten.

He added that Mr. Rathy died from his injuries while on the way to hospital and the four suspects were still being questioned at district police headquarters.
