Private clinic failure: Dr Richner calls for doctors to be tested.
Dr. Beat Richner, an advisor to the Ministry of Health, called on the government on Sunday to test doctors working in private clinics throughout the Kingdom and if they failed, their clinic should be closed, he said.
He said this after 146 severely ill children were transferred from private clinics and referral hospitals to Kantha Bopha hospitals early on Sunday morning.
According to Dr. Richner, the children suffered from dengue fever and encephalitis. They were improperly treated by doctors working in private clinics and referral hospitals.
“As advisor to the Ministry of Health, I ask the Ministry of Health to organize exams for medical doctors working in private clinics. If they do not pass the exam, their private clinic must be closed,” wrote Dr. Richner in a post to his Facebook page on Sunday.
He added that his hospitals had spent a lot of money transferring the sick children from the private clinics and referral hospitals, where neither a diagnosis was carried out nor a correct treatment was given. They also kept the patients for too many days to get as much money as they could, he said...

Re: Private clinic failure: Dr Richner calls for doctors to be tested.
Good idea, but...What sort of "exams" would the MOH organize ? The ones where you pay to pass ? And who would the examiners be ?
“As advisor to the Ministry of Health, I ask the Ministry of Health to organize exams...
And isn't the problem that there are just not enough qualified doctors, so sometimes a quack or an underqualified doctor is better than nothing ? What would happen if they closed a large number of private clinics ?
First they need to train more doctors and set up proper clinics in the provinces. A lot of people can't afford to go to PP or SR to get decent medical care. The MOH is not doing enough to set up a proper health system, and it's really not helpful when the attitude from on high is that we shouldn't criticize Cambodia health care because everyone's just doing their best :
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a new University of Health Sciences building and to celebrate the university’s 70th anniversary last month, Prime Minister HE claimed that most doctors in the country help people and that the mistakes made by some doctors should not reflect poorly on Cambodia’s larger healthcare sector.
“I do not agree with someone who said that 90 percent of medical doctors are bad. Only 10 percent of doctors are good, so can the doctors accept this accusation? It seems it is looking down on doctors,” Mr. HE said, adding that he and other Cambodians received quality care from in-country doctors.

Follow the money. Millions come in, millions go out. Life is cheap.
"To keep you is no benefit, to destroy you is no loss." Same same with minor nuance.

Failing medical students ask HE for help
Wed, 3 August 2016
Cristina Maza
Fifty medical students from Phnom Penh’s Royal University of Health Science have posted on Prime Minister HE’s Facebook page asking him to allow them to pass their exams despite having failed.
Some of the students had failed their clinical exams – required to advance in their medical degrees – two or three times and wanted the prime minister to waive the results, the comment posted on Monday said.
“We are always supporting the smart and good leadership of Samdech that brings development to Cambodia,” a student named Bun Samdath wrote. “We strongly hope that Samdech will intervene in the exam results, and we wish Samdech and his family all the best.”
The request was posted just a day after Dr Beat Richner – frustrated after scores of improperly treated children were brought to his Kantha Bopha hospitals on Saturday – said medical doctors at private clinics lacked the skills to provide adequate medical care, and requested that the Ministry of Health begin testing them.
In June, HE permitted 99 students who had passed written entrance exams but failed oral exams to enter medical school anyway. In January, the prime minister agreed to reduce the price of final exams for medical students seeking accreditation to practice medicine from $125 to $25 after students petitioned him on his Facebook page.
Experts say these concessions are weakening the already poor quality of Cambodia’s medical schools and the preparedness of new doctors leaving them.
“Many patients are misdiagnosed every day [in Cambodia] because of the poor quality of the medical schools,” said Dr Quach Mengley, a Cambodian-American doctor based in Cambodia. “Passing and failing an exam is no longer taken seriously due to [a lack of] transparency, and most of the students have to look for their own clinics or hospitals for training.”...

Strong Buddhist moral fiber. I've got a good.Cambodian doctor but I had to slog through a shit pit of lousy ones to find him.

My GF went to plenty of Doctors here as she developed a bad rash on her face. Came home every time with a bag full of antibiotics, which did not help. Went to see a Doctor in South Africa who diagnosed the issue in about 5 seconds (it was a fungus infection). Not much faith in local Doctors....

I guess the reason everybody with a bit of money heads to Vietnam, Thailand, or Singapore when they need medical attention is purely because of the scenic views....Username Taken wrote:Surely you are mistaken.hanno wrote:My GF went to plenty of Doctors here as she developed a bad rash on her face. http://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/p ... ical-checkPM hits road for routine medical check-up
Seven months after defending the necessity of trips abroad for medical care, Prime Minister HE is back in Singapore for a routine medical check-up, posting photographs of himself and doctors at the hospital on his Facebook account.
It goes without saying that the PM has chosen a Singapore clinic due to the better shopping facilities and not because of the superior medical care, as current rumours would have it.
