Execution tonight for 14 prisoners: Indonesia.

Post by Anchor Moy »

RIP. Waiting for the announcement of imminent execution must be terribly punishing for family and friends. Like the Lotto in reverse.
Ambulances carrying the coffins arrived on Thursday morning at the port of Cilacap, the town on the Javanese mainland that is a gateway to the island penitentiary.

Fourteen prisoners on death row, including inmates from Nigeria, Pakistan, India and South Africa, and four Indonesians, have been moved to isolation holding cells on Nusa Kambangan. Thirteen are men and one – Utami – is a woman. All were found guilty of drugs offences.

Human rights groups argue that many of the cases of prisoners on death row in Indonesia – including some of the 14 facing execution this week – are marked by questionable and inhumane practices, including beatings, torture and forced confessions...

Notice was given to prisoners on Tuesday that their executions were to be carried out, but if they were to go ahead on Thursday night it would appear to be in contravention of Indonesia’s own regulations, which say at least 72 hours’ notice must be given.

According to Amnesty International at least 165 people are on death row in Indonesia, and more than 40% of those for drug-related crimes. Executions for drug-related crimes are in violation of international law.

Just makes you want to run right out and be a tourists in that Muslim country. Of course America isn't much better in jailing and offing people. America has more people in jails/prisons than any other country on earth, but they don't kill you for drugs like this lunatic Muslim country.

PEOPLE DEALING IN HEROIN FULLY DESERVE THE HANGMAN'S NOOSE OR THE FIRING SQUAD

yet we all know that ...

A street hustler in Kuta (Bali) offers a lump the size of a toffee and smelling of hash ...

A little later, one hears (1) that this is solidified car-seat glue rolled in hash oil or rubbed with hash
(2) that the piggies were waiting around the corner to swoop and demand a sum beginning at $100 up to $500 or more ...

... like the poor beach-boy "victims" in Sri Lanka - a full theatrical performance with boy / guesthouse (a location which the boy suggests) / 'outraged father' / 'police officer'
in uniform (he bursts into the guesthouse bedroom in company with the 'outraged father' character) / lastly, the guesthouse proprietor who can and will intervene to
smooth everything over for maybe $500 to $1,000

Jakarta Post made a terrible mistake when they failed to notice that finally only 4 of the 14 were executed on Thursday at midnight. The remaining 10 will await the death penalty at a later unspecified date:
INDONESIAN daily The Jakarta Post has issued an apology over an embarrassing mistake on its front page story regarding the executions of drug offenders on Friday.

The front page lead story reported that 14 inmates were executed, but only four actually faced the firing squad just after midnight.

“The Jakarta Post made a serious error of judgment on Thursday night when it decided to run on the front page headline story for the Friday edition with the title ‘Firing squads kill convicts,'” read the apology on its website by editor-in-chief Endy M. Bayuni.
“The Jakarta Post sincerely apologizes to all our readers, particularly to all those affected by the story, for this major failure,” he wrote.

Authorities executed Indonesian Freddy Budiman, Seck Osmane from Senegal, and Nigerians Michael Titus Igweh and Humphrey Jefferson Ejike by firing squad at around midnight local time during a thunderstorm at the prison facility on Nusakambangan Island.

The four were executed for drug offences despite international calls this week to put a halt to executions.

The fate of the other 10 inmates, comprising citizens of India, Pakistan and Zimbabwe, is yet to be made known, but an official said the planned executions would go through “in stages”, declining to specify a timeframe...
