Less traffic accidents this year so far.
Thanks to the new traffic laws, less people have been killed on the roads these last 6 months than in the same time last year, according to a report released two days ago by the government.
Traffic Accidents Down in First Half of Year
Nearly 1,000 people have died in traffic accidents in the first six months of 2016 according to a National Committee for Road Safety report released today.
The report, which was released at an Interior Ministry meeting this morning, showed a 12 percent decline in deaths from traffic accidents compared to the same period last year.
In the year’s first semester, there were 1,900 accidents resulting in 919 deaths and 3,309 injuries. Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk and Kampong Cham were the provinces with the highest number of reported accidents.
In the same period last year, there were 271 more reported accidents, 100 more deaths and 451 more injuries.
Interior Minister Sar Kheng, who also serves as head of the National Committee for Road Safety, said the lower figures were due to the new Traffic Law put into effect earlier this year. He encouraged police officers as well as drivers to continue cooperating and respecting the law.
“This achievement we have made, there were some critics who said we could not do it. But we finally were able to save the lives of people and stop injuries from traffic accidents,” he said... http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/27027/ ... f-of-year/

Re: Less traffic accidents this year so far.
Minor accident indicates a lack of driver education

Kong Meta and Chin Sreyleap
A motorist turning without signaling? We know, it’s hard to believe that could ever happen on the Kingdom’s roads, and yet it did on Tuesday in Svay Rieng.
Luckily, both participants in the National Road 1 wipeout – prompted by a man’s sudden left turn with an unsuspecting driver directly behind him – emerged from the accident with only mild injuries.
Sadly, we can rest easy in the knowledge that no one will learn anything from the incident.
