Re: Tap Water...
I read similar somewhere, but the suggestion was that you should get your house/apartment tap water tested at least once before starting to drink it to rule out any issues with your block/building. Apparently there's a French NGO (?) that will do personal water testing free for those that can't afford to pay, small fee for those who can. Anyone know which company this is?vladimir wrote:I stopped boiling water after a friend of mine did analysis of the water in 15 different municipal locations, all fine.

how long has it been since you've been there? almost all new construction is PVC now.The Add Jay wrote:it tested periodically by both govt and none for profits.
As a farm boy I trust the PVC pipe over anything that could have been joined with lead.
It should never be joined with lead in the first place. I dont know what they do in Australia but drinking water is never supplied by pvc in the states.

Get a filter if you want.
For those wanting to use a filter try this. Put some food colouring in the water on the supply side and see if your filter removes it. IT WILL NOT REMOVE IT. Now imagine if that food colouring was DDT or some liquid horticulture spray that was being used kilometres away and got into the supply.

Re: Tap Water...
At home I drink tap water. The house is relatively new and the water tank is clean.
It smells of chlorine, but I leave it to 'air' for a couple of hours.
I would be more concerned about some of the bottled water that gets sold in this place.

This could happen anywhere in the world. What is your point?Duncan wrote:ali baba wrote:I drink the tap water. It tastes bad because of the chlorine and occasionally it comes out milky or cloudy but the 20l bottles are too much hassle to replace constantly.

The 20 L bottles are easy for me cause I just get my neighbor's Khmer wife to call and she's downstairs all day anyways and so I don't have to sit around and wait (the truck usually comes within 20 minutes), and they taste way better than this over-chlorined stuff.ali baba wrote:I drink the tap water. The trick with the bottles is to make sure you have enough of them. For one month I easily need 3.
I think also having one of those cooling stand things where you just turn the bottle upside down would be pretty sweet.
Does a water filter change the taste? Don't you still have to replace it?

Interesting. You must have special intestinal bugs that keep you safe.vladimir wrote:Untrue. Within Nutbush (PP) City Limits, the water is fine. If you are getting a bill from the municipality it's OK. I drink from the tap, no problem for 5 years.Jacobincambodia wrote:Stop. Stupid idea to trust the tap water here. Coca Cola and other assorted scam artists would love you to fall for the scare-mongering.
You are more at danger from the street food stalls.

Our new cleaner mentioned today you can get them delivered. Franky I'd rather pay someone to lug them up three flights of dodgy stairs for me. Anyone have contact details for this service? Can they handle barangese?FreeSocrates! wrote:The 20 L bottles are easy for me cause I just get my neighbor's Khmer wife to call and she's downstairs all day anyways and so I don't have to sit around and wait (the truck usually comes within 20 minutes), and they taste way better than this over-chlorined stuff.ali baba wrote:I drink the tap water. Mine just came.
Not sure why there is so many numbers. I think sometimes they can speak ok English, but probably easier to just get your maid to arrange it and fill them up before you're out.
I think you will need at least 3-5 bottles for one month. ($5 deposit/each bottle + $1 for refills)
