Cool. Do you know them though? I've been robbed a few times including once recently of 900 bucks so I'm a bit cynical. I have a waterproof pouch and the new waterproof Galaxy S7 so I guess I'll use them and only carry a few bucks. BTW I lost the money after visiting the bank so lesson learnt. Thing is I lived in Cambodia during the 90s and never had a problem. Guess the rise in crime is the price of progress.Jamie_Lambo wrote:the bracelet kids look after my phone and wallet (seriously lol)Jasonkhm wrote:Where do you keep your money when you're swimming though? yeah im apart of the "beach community" down there, they actually watch my back rather than try and rob me, although its not too often i go down there that much in recent months, but you cant really trust them if you dont know them, ive heard far too many stories of people getting shit robbed, id never go down there with 900bucks though that was a daft move lol lolJasonkhm wrote:Cool. Like I said... Lesson learnt. I'd just arrived in pp for the first time in 15 years expecting everything to be the same, like a movie set from a cowboy movie. What I encountered was a monstrosity of construction. I arrived with 2000 cash and went down the bank first thing in the morning to deposit 1100. Still half cut from the night before I took the girl I picked up to Psar Thmey to get myself some clean clothes (airplane lost my bag) and then to Wat Phnom. Got back to the hotel and wallet didn't. Sent the girl home and got drunk again. Not a lot you can do on Saturday afternoon with no cash. Canceled cards through my phone and decided to cut my losses and go home early. Fortunately I got the money back through insurance but still I was pissed at myself for having been so stupid. Next trip is coming up soon and I'll know better this time.Jamie_Lambo wrote:yeah im apart of the "beach community" down there, they actually watch my back rather than try and rob me, although its not too often i go down there that much in recent months, but you cant really trust them if you dont know them, ive heard far too many stories of people getting shit robbed, id never go down there with 900bucks though that was a daft move lol lolJasonkhm wrote:Cool. You got the "cash" you lost back from insurance? Sounds too good to be true.Jasonkhm wrote:Fortunately I got the money back through insurance but still I was pissed at myself for having been so stupid. Next trip is coming up soon and I'll know better this time.

Re: Eden Hostel on Serendipity Beach in Sihanoukville FOR SALE: $40,000
Well to be honest, I should just shut up because what's the point of bitching if I know I won't like it? It's obvious that beaches are the primary attraction, I just don't like beaches. My pasty white skin doesn't like the sun, nor do my light-sensitive eyes. I love swimming, but hate the salt water. I would never retire or work in a beach environment. But anyways, I've been going to Sihanoukville for years, so it's not like I'v passed judgement over a "few days" as you say. My opinion has been formed over the years, and ever since they paved that Serendipity road I've found the place has gone downhill. And yes, I've been to pretty much every beach there. Just not my cup of tea, but then again why am I going there and commenting if I know I don't like it? Still, it's a welcome change now and then.Anchor Moy wrote: BKL, it's funny when people who don't like SV say they don't like beaches, because for me that's the primary attraction. If I didn't like the beach I would move elsewhere. BUT I like swimming in the sea, so I like the coast. I can't stand more than a few days in PP, but that's just my preference, and it doesn't mean that living in PP is better or worse than SV, just different.
Also, you can't judge a place after a couple of days holiday. We're not all creepy; we're just hiding from tourists.
Lots of not so good things happening all over Cambodia, that doesn't mean it's a dump.

Just gotta party all night, sleep the day away and go out again when the sun's setting.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:My pasty white skin doesn't like the sun, nor do my light-sensitive eyes.
That's my usual beach schedule.
