Jaundiced? Thats a quaint expression. I would like to know how he got to where he was caught on foot without a crowd chasing him. The MO of the regime has changed it seems, they used to arrest patsies well after the event. This guy had his story prepared and seemed to want to be caught. Is the regime dumb enough to believe that a ridiculous story about a debt will wash. They slipped in the slander of course, that the money was for poor people and the victim stole it.
Lets hope certain people end up like Sadaam pulled out of the hole and hung or Gadaafi cowering, raped and murdered. It looks like our mate Assad will avoid this fate despite being as viscious as Sadaam and Gadaafi combined.

Yes, because Iraq and Libya have been bastions of peace and freedom since those events...
Silence, exile, and cunning.

A man symbolically slices open his arm with a razor and holds his clenched fist over the coffin. The meaning seems clear enough.

Amazing scene and picture, especially as zoomed on the monk and the apparently self imposed martyr man.
I can relate to the monk horrified gaze at the nasty cut he is presented.

Putting the tinfoil hat on, I don't think the government did this. Kem was, from what I read, fairly bipartisan in his criticism.

Could be outside forces stirring the pot.

Officials ID Kem Ley’s Killer; Prime Minister Calls for Calm

by Khuon Narim and Kuch Naren | July 12, 2016

The man suspected of murdering prominent political analyst Kem Ley on Sunday was a monk at a pagoda in Siem Reap province until last year, officials said on Monday, while Prime Minister HE sought to deflect public suspicion that the assassination was politically motivated.

Kem Ley, 46, a popular commentator and frequent government critic, was shot dead while having coffee at a favorite convenience store in central Phnom Penh shortly after 8:30 a.m.

With Critic’s Murder, a Singular Voice Silenced

by Alex Willemyns | July 12, 2016 | អានជាភាសាខ្មែរ

Abrupt in an era in which many believed the old plague of government critics being assassinated had been extinguished, the execution-style slaying of Kem Ley as he sat for a coffee in Phnom Penh on Sunday morning sent shockwaves through the nation.

No more than 30 minutes after his assassin had fired two shots into the popular political analyst, images of his lifeless body lying in the mundane surrounds of a gas station convenience store sent people on all sides of politics into public grieving.

Mourners Scuffle With Police, Government Guards
Scuffles broke out in Phnom Penh on Monday as about 100 police officers and government security guards blocked “Black Monday” activists attempting to pay their respects to popular government critic Kem Ley, who was gunned down on Sunday.

While nine previous Black Monday marches were held to protest the recent imprisonment of four rights workers and an election official, the focus of this week’s event shifted in light of the political analyst’s murder at a Phnom Penh gas station.

Some 40 black-clad land rights activists gathered in the city’s eviction-hit Boeng Kak neighborhood at about 9 a.m. on Monday, holding portraits of the slain commentator along with lotus flowers and sticks of incense. Half an hour later, the group began marching toward Wat Chas in Chroy Changva district, where his body was lying in wake.

“Our main purpose is to mourn human rights in Cambodia,” prominent activist Tep Vanny shouted to the crowd.

“Today, we will send the message to Cambodian people here and around the world that we are mourning the loss of Kem Ley, a hero of the Cambodian people.”https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/mour ... ds-115334/
