Vinny Bains (Indian Canadian) Found Dead in Hometown Guesthouse on Street 172 in Phnom Penh

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh: 42 year old Indian-born Canadian Vinny Bains was found dead in his guesthouse after arriving in Cambodia only 5 days earlier.

Local media reported that he checked into the Phnom Penh guesthouse on June 25 with his Cambodian girlfriend.

On the night of his death, he was snoring very loudly so his girlfriend went out of the room for a bit, and when she returned she found him dead on the bed.

Police found a lot of diabetes medications at the scene and concluded he died from a diabetes-induced heart attack.

He was previously the General Manager at Ajit Weekly Newspaper and was currently the Director of 6178235 Canada Inc in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

It also appears that Vinny Bains was involved in an usual drinking and driving incident in Brampton where a police officer assaulted his brother, lied about it and was later charged with perjury after the acts were discovered to have been caught on CCTV Security Cameras.

"Avtar Bhangal is the lawyer who represented Vinny Bains, 33, the man who was initially charged with impaired driving following a Peel police investigation in Brampton on Nov. 21, 2005. Bhangal said the perjury and assault charges were laid because a Peel officer was allegedly caught lying under oath in court on May 29, 2007."

Vinny was still charged with the drunk driving, but his brother's charges were dropped after the video was released.

"According to Bhangal, the accused man and another officer went to Vinny Bains residence in Brampton in connection with a hit-and-run and impaired driving incident.

Sunny Bains, 36, was subsequently arrested for being impaired in a public place.

"It was alleged Sunny had been running around outside of his brother's home but the video showed him being escorted out of the house and then being repeatedly struck against the hood of the cruiser," Bhangal said.

The impaired driving charge against Vinny was stayed on May 29, Bhangal said.
