Aww, that's a shame. RIP.hanno wrote:News breaking on VN media say his body has been found and that he has been dead for 2-3 days though authorities have not confirmed that yet.
Used to be my thing, though nobody ever accused me of being sane. Climbed almost more than one of the non-technical mountains in the Cascades alone at one point or another.SinnSisamouth wrote:what sane person goes climbing or trekking on their own?
But for this guy to die in just a few days...not sure what happened there. Injuries, animals, not properly prepared? I wonder.

The body of British national Aiden Webb, who had been missing since Friday last week while trekking in Fansipan Mountain in northern Vietnam, was found Thursday afternoon, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The rescue team sent out in search of Webb, 22, said the victim’s body had been found at 1:00 pm.
Located in Sa Pa District in Lao Cai Province, Fansipan is the highest peak in the three Indochinese countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, at the height of 3,143 meters.
Webb’s corpse was discovered at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level and about one kilometer away from the T4 beam of the cable car system.
According to the rescue team, the man might have died three days before he was found.
The team is currently working closely with the cable car management to find ways to get the body out of the forest, which is expected to take hours due to the craggy terrains.
A team of about 50 people had joined in the search mission, including the military, Sa Pa police officers, the Hoang Lien National Park emergency team, and the Fansipan cable car company.
On Thursday last week, Aiden Webb and his girlfriend Bluebell Baugham checked in at a hotel in Sa Pa District.
Early the next morning, Webb set off to trek up Fansipan Mountain while his girlfriend stayed behind, though the two maintained contact through Facebook.
The man reportedly climbed along the cable car line towards the mountain top, packing lightly with some food, a flashlight, and a phone charger.
According to Baugham’s statements, the last message she received from Webb was at around 6:00 am on Saturday, when the man told her how he had got lost with injuries on his arm and leg.

And hopefully some water and a lighter, and ideally an emergency blanket and a knife as well. I can't imagine how he died so quickly. Maybe the injuries were bad, a broken bone pierced the skin or something.Anchor Moy wrote:The man reportedly climbed along the cable car line towards the mountain top, packing lightly with some food, a flashlight, and a phone charger.

He did not fall off a cliff though. I have climbed that mountain, it is not alpine climbing or anything, but there are plenty of places where you can take a serious fall.SinnSisamouth wrote:and yet that japanese 7yo boy survived nearly a week on his own.LTO wrote:Aww, that's a shame. Sad news, but why bother with a phone charger? Where's he gonna plug it in?The man reportedly climbed along the cable car line towards the mountain top, packing lightly with some food, a flashlight, and a phone charger.

I saw that in one Vietnamese newspaper they referred to as a solar charger. Still not much good on Fan Si Pan where sun is rarer than a hen's tooth.epidemiks wrote:Sad news, but why bother with a phone charger? I have an external charger that I got in the market for $5, charges the phone about two or three times. You can get larger ones (20000 mAh) that are still only about the size of a phone.hanno wrote:I saw that in one Vietnamese newspaper they referred to as a solar charger.
