Re: Buying and owning parrots/monkeys
I hear and respect your concern, and genuinely don't believe I could keep an African Grey mentally stimulated enough for its own health - but are you seriously concerned that a $150 parrot from a neighboring country has been poached from the wilds of the Congo?vladimir wrote:Please don't buy one!giblet wrote:I think he said an African Grey parrot was $150 or $200.

Re: Buying and owning parrots/monkeys
I was licensed to keep exotic parrots in Australia and had a pair of eclectus parrots from New Guinea like these
and a pair of sun conures from the Amazon Rainforest like these:
All were hand tame and members of the family rather than cage animals.

yeah, that does seem a bit unrealistic... just in acquisition and transporting costs. more likely they have a breeding pair (or a few) and are breeding them in captivity.StroppyChops wrote:I hear and respect your concern, and genuinely don't believe I could keep an African Grey mentally stimulated enough for its own health - but are you seriously concerned that a $150 parrot from a neighboring country has been poached from the wilds of the Congo?vladimir wrote:Please don't buy one!giblet wrote:I think he said an African Grey parrot was $150 or $200.

That would be my thought, and I have no issue purchasing endangered species that have been bred in captivity, are legal to own, and I can offer appropriate care

if anything it seems it would perpetuate the species by encouraging the breeding of them...StroppyChops wrote:That would be my thought, and I have no issue purchasing endangered species that have been bred in captivity, are legal to own, and I can offer appropriate care
Re: Buying and owning parrots/monkeys
I was told that they are bred locally.

What's better than 2 chronic masterbaters in the house? Lol I jest...General Mackevili wrote: There can't possibly be a better pet though!
I think I'd get tired of monkey shit and semen fast, but if a girl monkey just have to deal with the shit. But I don't have a kid because I don't want to change diapers also. For a monkey it's forever.

Re: Buying and owning parrots/monkeys
In 1979 my friend had a pet monkey in Bali.
They went everywhere together.
One day while walking on the beach, the monkey jumped off my friends shoulder onto the face of a german, and bit his nose almost off.

But seriously that would suck. Guess that why most have their big teeth removed, to at least minimize damage.

And they originally came from Nana Plaza, right?OrangeDragon wrote:yeah, that does seem a bit unrealistic... just in acquisition and transporting costs. more likely they have a breeding pair (or a few) and are breeding them in captivity.StroppyChops wrote:I hear and respect your concern, and genuinely don't believe I could keep an African Grey mentally stimulated enough for its own health - but are you seriously concerned that a $150 parrot from a neighboring country has been poached from the wilds of the Congo?vladimir wrote:Please don't buy one!giblet wrote:I think he said an African Grey parrot was $150 or $200.
And the dealers in Bangkok refuse any more, they tell the suppliers: Oh no, we've got breeding pairs, no need, we're every well known for planning here in Thailand, especially wildlife smugglers...NOT.
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right?
