Bye-Bye Tonlie Sap

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Why not throw a few mill at the roads and rail and develop the existing towns? It;s not like this place is that big........oh sorry! For a second there I forgot I was in Cambodia!

Well they have been doing that for at least 20 years, but it's been a difficult task. Refurbishing a decaying building (or city) costs a lot more than building a new one. I agree that it's ludicrous to keep building satellite cities if nobody wants them, but so far that hasn't been the case. I've never lived in one, but I can see the appeal of those borey estates with their guarded entrances and quiet streets that kids can play on.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I like them too, but you have to go outside to work and buy food. If only there was a government who worked on roads, drains and public transport. Instead huge amounts of stolen money goes offshore. The place is fucked, let's face it.

rail to Thailand MAY be open by Christmas IF the ministry releases funds. supposedly it is doable in an engineering sense.
thailand has a lot of rolling stock off the chian mai line for sale very cheap ;-)
The King will soon tootle off to Sihanoukville on the train, perhaps after that the money will be allocated.
scoff all you like but it may well happen

Hang on. Does this say what I think it does ? There are 6,000 residents in a city built for 2 million ? That's an endorsement ?
Country Garden Holdings with a capital of $5 billion is one of China’s top 10 developers and its first overseas venture outside the mainland, in 2014, was the development of the Country Garden Danga Bay satellite city in Malaysia’s Johor state opposite Singapore, with the support of the Malaysian government. More than 6,000 residents all over the world have made their home in Danga Bay, and the satellite city to Johor’s capital Johore Baru can accommodate close to two million people
