so they stepped up to the plate an will now assist the workers in being legal!!!!
Following an exodus of more than 200,000 Cambodian workers from Thailand in the past two weeks, the junta has urged Cambodia to expedite planned border offices that will facilitate legal labour migration.

Responding to that request, Cambodia announced yesterday that the first “one-stop service office” would open at Banteay Meanchey’s Poipet International Checkpoint in July.

Thailand has had one stop service for years
What will this do for industry there that was getting by on cheap illegal labor? Send it here or Burma?

everyone will be legal!!!

The Cambodians will still work for less cause they will still make 3-4x times more than they can make in Cambodia.

Legal workers have costs above wages. Taxes, medical, etc.

by legal they fall under the 30 baht medical plan same as thais;
tax's are minimal (maybe 500 baht/month)
Most have housing provided for free

SO compare that to Cambodia,
make $80-100/month, no medical an pay for housing.

If it wasn't such a good deal why have 400,000+ (about 2.5% of the 14.5 million ) come over?

Bring it on OD,
whatever you think they have a better life, make more money here than in their own country

it's not about them... it's about the businesses. is it still the best cost to keep employing them there or does it make more sense for the business to move elsewhere.

if it moves, then the jobs vanish, and they're stuck here still.

first u ask about the workers,
now ur interested in the employers.
who is it your worried about losing

everyone wins

Thailand gets its cheap labor at an lower than Thai costs
workers get legality, protection and insurance

BTW Honda announced that they are firing over 25,0000 employees from their production plant because of rising costs and lower car sales.

Doesn't that make OD's point? Rising prices for labor is not a "win" for the employers.

A lot of Thais aren't even safe from the military junta, even those abroad, so it's naive to think that cheap foreign labour will be.
Could you point us towards any Khmer foreign workers/ articles, who are as gleeful as you about the situation?

The Khmers in Thailand have been celebrating and even held a huge party where they celebrated together with the military. Here is the pic of them waiting to get into the dance club.

In the club it was wild. they even had ladies dancing in cages!

Per the news reports-

-Thai military enforces existing law peacefully
-They state all reports to the contrary are rumors
-It is being made simple for Khmers to come back and get proper papers

Reality-

-Thai military kills, threatens, harasses, scares the Khmer workers (legal or not)
- Media reports what they are told to report
- Top military realize they fucked up as business lose the cheap labor and top military officials can't get their durian fix as the farm shut down
- It is being made simple for Khmers to come back and get proper papers

For some people it is just easier to accept the propaganda. Others can open their eyes and see what is actually happening.
